“The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light.”
— ― Carl Sagan, Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space

Mr. Fukuyama argues that current debates about the proliferation of misinformation, outright falsehoods, hate speech, and various conspiracies miss the mark whenever solutions abandon the principals of free speech.  Rather, as is attributed to Edmund Burke, other voices must contribute to the dialogue.

This will be my attempt to contribute, without any claim to the value of my contributions.  Every effort will be made that my thoughts will be true, accurate, recognizing others’ privacy, civil.  Further, it will be my purpose to write for all of us as opposed to those professional writers who too often but unintentionally obfuscate with their references and rhetoric. Perhaps these thoughts will generate discussion and debate, of course always civil.

For me, after a long, exciting career, this is 2.0

“A long term solution to the problem of alternate realities brought on by the internet and digital communications cannot be the abandonment of the principal of free speech through the use of power to simply shut down disfavored forms of speech, whether this is done by governments, corporations, or digital online mobs.  Freedom of speech depends further on norms of civility and respect for other peoples’ zones of privacy.  It remains the case that there is an objective world out there beyond our
subjective minds.”
— Francis Fukuyama-"Liberalism and Its Discontents"
“All that is required for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing”
— Attributed to Edmund Burke
